21In whom all this is woven, warp and weft, as a cloth stands in its spread of threads; and this old tree of the round of birth, whose very self is action, puts out flower and fruit. 22It has two seeds, a hundred roots, three stems, five trunks, five saps for its yield, eleven branches, one nest of two fine-winged birds, three barks, two fruits, and it has entered the sun. 23Vultures that go about the villages eat one fruit of it, and swans that live in the forest eat the other. The man who knows, through those worthy of worship, that this one thing of many forms is made of maya, knows the Veda. 24So, steady one, by waiting on a teacher with an undivided devotion, cut away the lodging of the living one with the sharpened axe of knowledge, watchfully; and having come into the self, then throw the weapon away.
