Verse 19

¹⁹As the strand of clarity grows, the strength of the gods grows with it; the strength of the demons grows in passion, and in darkness, Uddhava, that of the raksasas. ²⁰Know waking to come from clarity, and set dreaming down to passion; deep sleep in a creature comes from darkness, and the fourth state runs on through all three. ²¹By clarity brahmins and other people go higher and higher; by darkness they go down and down, head foremost; by passion they move about in between. ²²Those who go under while in clarity go to heaven; those who dissolve in passion to the world of men; those who dissolve in darkness go to hell; and those beyond the strands come to me.
