4Aila the emperor, whose fame was great, sang this song, bewildered at being parted from Urvasi, and weary of it all while he held his grief in. 5When she left him and walked away, the king, naked and like a madman, went after her wailing, beside himself: Wife! Terrible one! Stand still! 6Never satisfied, he had gone on taking small pleasures, years of them and nights of them, and did not know they were coming and going, his mind dragged away by Urvasi. 7How far my delusion has spread, my mind fouled with desire. Held by the neck by that goddess, I did not count these as pieces of my life. 8Robbed by her, I did not know that the sun had risen or that it had set. Alas, the days of whole heaps of years have gone.
9How I have bewildered myself: I, an emperor, the crest-jewel of the gods among men, was made a plaything for women. 10A lord, I left myself and all my belongings behind like a straw, and went after that woman as she walked away, naked and weeping like a madman.
