Where is this filthy body, made of bad smells and the like, unclean, and where are qualities like sweetness of mind? The one is laid over the other by not-knowing. Whose own is it: the parents', the wife's, the master's, the fire's, the dog's and the vulture's? Is it one's own, or one's friends'? It is never settled. To that carcass, not fit to be offered, ending in nothing, a man fastens himself: Ah, the lovely face of the woman, the fine nose, the sweet smile. In a heap of skin, flesh, blood, sinew, fat, marrow and bone, in dung and urine and pus: how much is there between the man who delights in it and the worms?

Even so, a man who knows what is good for him should not attach himself to women, or to men who are given over to women. The mind is stirred by the joining of objects and senses, and in no other way. From a thing not seen and not heard of, no state comes to be. For a man who does not set his breaths to work, the mind goes still and grows quiet. So let there be no clinging with the senses to women, or to men given over to women. Even for the learned the band of six is not to be trusted, and how much less for men like me.
