38For a yogin whose yoga is not yet ripe, as he works at it, the body may be struck down by troubles that come up. For that, this rule is laid down. 39Some of the troubles he should burn out by holding the mind in yoga, some by postures joined with that holding, and some by austerity, by mantras and by herbs. 40Some, those that bring what is not good, he should kill off slowly by meditating on me, by singing out my name and the rest, or by following the lords of yoga. 41Some steady men, having made this body well prepared and steady in its years by various means, then join themselves in yoga for attainment. 42One who is skilful does not hold that worth doing; the labour of it comes to nothing, since the body has an end, like the fruit of a forest tree.
43If the body of a man who tends yoga always should come to be well prepared, one who has understanding and is set on me does not put his trust in that and give up yoga. 44A yogin who goes about in this practice of yoga, taking shelter in me, is not struck down by obstacles; he wants nothing, and he tastes his own happiness.
