Once the dharma that is mine has been begun, dear one, there is no loss of it, not even a little, Uddhava. It was settled by me rightly, since it is beyond the strands and asks for nothing. Whatever is set up toward me, the highest, as dharma with no fruit in view, best of the good, is dharma, even if the labour of it should be as useless as what is done out of fear and the like. This is the understanding of those who have understanding, and the thought of those who think: that here, by what is untrue and must die, a man gets what is true, and gets me, who do not die. This whole gathering of the talk of Brahman has been told to you, in brief and at length, and it is hard to come at even for the gods.

Again and again I have told you this knowledge, with its reasoning plain. Knowing it fully, a man is freed, and his doubt is destroyed. Your question has been well set apart by me. Whoever holds this too, holds the everlasting secret of Brahman, and reaches the supreme Brahman. Whoever hands this on fully among those given to me: to that giver of the gift of Brahman I give myself, by myself. Whoever studies this, which is holy, highest and clean, is made clean day after day, showing me by the lamp of knowledge. Whoever hears this always with trust, and is not distracted, giving me the highest devotion, is not bound by his works.
