In plain words

A she-elephant made of straw, mad mind, and Jagdīś has set the play going. For the taste of lust the elephant is taken, mad mind, and bears the goad on his head. Come clear of the poison, be steeped in Hari; take it in, mad mind. You do not turn fearless, you do not sing Hari, mad mind, and you never caught hold of Rām's ship. *(refrain)* The monkey's fist closed on a handful of grain, mad mind; he put his hand in and took it. Now the fear of not getting loose is on him, mad mind, and he dances at door after door. As the parrot is caught on the turning tube, mad mind, so māyā does its business. Like the colour of safflower, mad mind, so this whole spread is spread out. There are places of pilgrimage enough to bathe in, mad mind, and gods enough to worship. Says Kabīr, there is no getting loose that way, mad mind; the getting loose is Hari's service. The straw she-elephant is a decoy, a frame of wicker and cloth set out to draw the wild elephant in. *kasumbh* is safflower, whose red is brilliant and quickly gone.
