Nine yards, ten yards, twenty-one yards, and the skein is one single warp. Sixty threads, nine divisions, seventy-two, and more silk set into it besides. She has gone out to have it woven, mother. When the house is given up, the weaver goes. *(refrain)* It is not measured out in yards, it is not weighed on the scale; the sizing is two and a half *sērs*. If the sizing does not come quickly, the woman of the house makes a quarrel of it. Sitting about all day, set against the master: when will this hour come round again? The pots stand abandoned, the skeins lie soaking, and the weaver has walked off in a temper. The reed is empty, no thread will come out, and what is left has gone into a tangle. Leave the whole spread of it, stay here, poor woman. Says Kabīr, I am telling you so that you see. A *sēr* is a weight of about a kilo. The sizing is the starch a weaver runs his thread through before he sets it on the loom.
