Poem 95

In plain words

Here in the bewildering thick darkness are killing sharks and striking makarams. On the way the tide surging in the backwater sets its whirlpools turning, and that backwater is long as a garland. Kampar does not grant grace to those whose minds are confused. She, the golden thread of the sea shore of his Kanchi, cannot bear parting from your embrace; yet, O lord of the shore, she fears this village to which you come.

Line by line

In the bewildering thick darkness, with killing sharks and striking makarams, on the way, the tide surging in the backwater sets whirlpools; that backwater, a garland, to the confused, not granting grace, Kampar; of Kanchi's sea, a golden thread, parting in the embrace she cannot bear; O lord of the shore, the village you come to she fears indeed.
