In plain words
The poet, of Araṅgam: As the fee for teaching him, he gave back to the great ascetic [Sāndīpani] his son, who had gone into the sea of beating waves and died there, in that very form he had when he died: his town is the place called Araṅgam of the waters, where the pure knowers of the Veda, in cleanly washed clothes, go down to bathe at the fords, so that the river [Kāviri] heaves in waves everywhere and the honey held in the flowers pours down.
