The Horse's Head

The singers of the Ṛgveda, the oldest of the Vedas, remembered how the Aśvins, the twin gods, came to Dadhyañc, the son of Atharvan, longing to learn from him. On the son of Atharvan, they sang to the Aśvins, you set the head of a horse, and he, true to his word, told you the secret honey, wonder-workers. That fierce wonder of yours, heroes, I proclaim in hope of your gifts, as thunder proclaims the rain: the honey that Dadhyañc, the son of Atharvan, told you through the head of a horse.

And they sang of Indra: Indra, never driven back, with the bones of Dadhyañc struck down his foes, ninety times nine.
