Śatānanda

At Mithilā, the priest of King Janaka was Śatānanda, the eldest son of Gautama and Ahalyā, bright with austerity. When he saw Rāma, he was filled with wonder, and he asked Viśvāmitra: Did you bring the prince to see my mother, after her long penance? Did she offer Rāma the gifts of the forest? Did you tell Rāma all that happened long ago, the wrong my mother did, which fate brought about? Was my mother reunited with my father after she had seen Rāma? Was Rāma honoured by my father? When Rāma came here and reverently greeted him, was my father's mind at peace?

Nothing was left undone, said Viśvāmitra. The wife has been restored to the sage, as Reṇukā was to Jamadagni of the line of Bhṛgu. Reṇukā was the wife of the sage Jamadagni: when she desired another man, her husband had their son Paraśurāma cut off her head, and then, at his son's asking, gave her back her life. And Śatānanda welcomed Rāma.
