Kapila
Seers of the Epics and Purāṇas · Ṛṣis and Ṛṣikās
The Lord born as the son of Kardama and Devahūti, who taught his mother the Sāṃkhya and the yoga of devotion, and in whose presence King Sagara's sixty thousand sons were turned to ash.
Kapila was the Lord himself, Viṣṇu, the first Person, whose name is also Hari, born as the son of the sage Kardama and of Devahūti, the daughter of Manu, the first king, to bring back the knowledge of the Self that had been lost through long ages. He gave his father leave to go to the forest, and taught his mother the Sāṃkhya, the counting of the principles of what is real, and the yoga of devotion, until she reached freedom. Then he went to live by the ocean in the north-east, and there the sixty thousand sons of King Sagara found him beside their father's stolen horse.
