In plain words

The poet, of Śrīraṅgam: The town of the mahout [Kṛṣṇa], who went up to the mighty elephant [Kuvalayāpīḍa] that stood upon the rock and came against him as if to battle, seized it, and broke off its tusk: it is Araṅgam alone, of lovely cool waters, where the ascetics live for ever around the temple, who carry the triple staff of strong bamboo with small nodes, whose hearts are fixed on the Lord and whose attachments are cut away.
