The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Advaitānubhūtiḥ

Verse 16

In plain words

A bubble lifts off the surface of the water and looks like something else — its own small thing, with its own edge. In just that way this whole world, spread out in a thousand forms, looks separate from the Self.

Close to the Sanskrit

Just as a bubble risen from water appears as if other than the water, so this expanse, in manifold ways, appears as if separate from the Self.
