Verse 77

क्षीरयोगाद्यथा नीरं क्षीरवद्दृश्यते मृषा ।आत्मयोगादनात्मायमात्मवद्दृश्यते तथा ॥ ७५ ॥

In plain words

Pour water into milk and the water looks like milk. It isn't; the eye is simply wrong. In the same way, because it keeps such close company with the Self, this not-Self looks like the Self.

Close to the Sanskrit

Just as, from association with milk, water is falsely seen as milk — so, from association with the Self, this non-Self is seen as the Self.
