The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Aparokṣānubhūtiḥ

Verse 3

स्ववर्णाश्रमधर्मेण तपसा हरितोषणात् ।साधनं प्रभवेत्पुंसां वैराग्यादि चतुष्टयम् ॥ ३ ॥

In plain words

Live the duties of the place you actually stand in, hold to your discipline, and let all of it be offered to Hari — and the equipment arises in you: the four, beginning with vairāgya.

Close to the Sanskrit

By the dharma of one's own varṇa and āśrama, by austerity, and from the pleasing of Hari, the means — the fourfold set beginning with vairāgya — would arise in persons.
