In plain words
Those wise enough to know what śruti truly means call him consciousness, nothing else. He is the one who leads his own devotees into knowledge, who sets prāṇa and every sense in motion, who is himself the very meaning carried in Praṇava, in Oṃ. Him I hold in contemplation, turned inward and facing south.
Close to the Sanskrit
Him whom the wise, knowing the truth of śruti, declare to be consciousness alone; him who has brought his own devotees to knowledge, who impels prāṇa, the senses, and the rest, and who is the meaning of Praṇava, Oṃ; the inward-facing, south-faced one—I contemplate.
