The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Mohamudgaraḥ

Verse 5

In plain words

As long as the money keeps coming in, your family is devoted to you. Later, when the body has worn thin and is merely still breathing, no one in that house even asks how you are.

Close to the Sanskrit

As long as one is attached to the earning of wealth, so long is one's own family affectionate. Afterwards, when the worn-out body is still living, no one at all in the house asks even for news.
