In plain words
In deep sleep it dissolves on its own; when you wake it spreads through the whole body. It is what the word vijñāna names, a reflection of consciousness. The intellect too is not the Self.
Close to the Sanskrit
In sleep dissolved of itself, in waking pervading the entire body, denoted by the word 'vijñāna', a reflection of cit — the buddhi too is not the ātman.
