In plain words

'I am the radiant, pure reality of the Self—I exist as all!' The Self is spiritual wealth, luminous because it reveals its own true nature, precious like treasure because it is the source of the bliss of liberation. In this context, the words 'obtained by me' must be supplied. Possessing a sublime intellect characterized by omniscience, I am endowed with mastery over the creation, maintenance, and dissolution of the universe. Therefore I am immortal, beyond death, undecaying, inexhaustible, immutable, untouched by harm, bathed in the nectar of immortality—as the sacred Brahmana text declares: 'I am sprinkled with nectar.' Thus spoke the seer Trishanku, who had become Brahman and realized the ultimate Truth. 'Veda' means the direct realization of the oneness of the Self, and 'vedānuvacana' is the triumphant declaration uttered after attaining that state, proclaiming the fulfillment of all duties. This mantra, revealed through the intuitive vision of the seer Trishanku just like the vision of Vamadeva, serves to illuminate the science of the Self. Its recitation is also known to remove all obstacles. From the placement of this text immediately after the teaching of ethical duties, we understand that for a seeker engaged in mandatory scriptural rites who is free from desire and longs to know the supreme Brahman, profound intuitive revelations concerning the Self naturally dawn.

Close to the Sanskrit

Luminous and pure is the reality of the Self—I am, I become. Treasure like wealth, radiant because of being the illuminator of the Self's reality, like wealth, because it is the cause of the bliss of liberation. In this view the ellipsis 'obtained by me' must be supplied. Possessing a brilliant intellect characterized by omniscience, of whom—myself—such is sumedhas due to mastery over the creation, maintenance, and dissolution of samsara; therefore immortal, of the nature of non-death, undecaying, inexhaustible, immutable, uninjured, or sprinkled with nectar—'I am sprinkled with nectar', such is the brahmana text. Thus is the vedānuvacana of the seer Trishanku who has become Brahman and is a knower of Brahman—veda is knowing, direct realization of the oneness of the Self, and vedānuvacana is the expression following that attainment, declaring oneself to have accomplished all duties, seen through rishi-like intuitive vision like Vamadeva, meaning it is an illuminator of self-knowledge. The recitation of this mantra is also understood to be for the subduing of obstacles. From the reading of this vedānuvacana immediately following the exposition of dharma, it is understood that for one engaged in obligatory śrauta and smārta actions who is free from desire and desirous of knowing supreme Brahman, intuitive visions concerning the Self and allied truths manifest.
