In plain words
Here is a man gone under in an ocean of disaster, his mind scorched raw by a hundred fires of this world. No way out, no wits left, shaking with every fear there is — and he has come to your two lotus feet. Terrified of what he owes, himself one heaped mountain of sins that no penance can touch. Victory to you, Yamunā! Victory, you who turn fear back at the door, you who break open every tight place — make me clean.
Close to the Sanskrit
A person sunk in the ocean of extreme calamities, whose mind is agitated by a hundred burnings of worldly existence; devoid of recourse and of understanding, overwhelmed by fear without remainder, come to the pair of your lotus feet; terrified with the fear of debt, a great heaped mass of a hundred crores and ten thousand unexpiable sins — victory to you, O Yamunā! Victory, O averter of fear, O destroyer of straits: purify me.
