Question and answer 14
In plain words
Disciple: Since the one who wakes knows the objects he knew before, one may not say they arise at the moment they are known. Objects stay steady before knowledge and after it.
Guru: In a dream too, what has arisen at that moment seems to have lasted a long time; just so, in the waking object that has arisen at that moment, a long-lasting steadiness appears through the power of avidyā. It is the same with the relations of cause and effect that appear among those objects.
Word for word
Disciple: Since knowledge of the earlier objects arises in one who has woken, it is not right to say they arise at the time simultaneous with knowledge. But before and after knowledge objects remain steady.
Guru: As even in a dream long-lasting steadiness appears in what arose at that moment, so in the waking object arisen at that moment, by the power of avidyā, long-lasting steadiness appears. The relations of cause and effect that appear in those objects are just so.
