Question and answer 29
In plain words
Disciple: Can a jñānī be much engaged in worldly affairs?
Guru: More activity means less happiness, and less activity more happiness. But knowledge stays the same. Activity hinders the special bliss of liberation while living; but since, whether engaging or withdrawing, the jñānī has no delusion of bondage in the Self, it does not hinder liberation while living itself.
Word for word
Disciple: For the jñānī, can there be much activity?
Guru: By excess of activity, lessening of happiness; by lessening of activity, more happiness, there is. But knowledge is the same. Though activity is an obstacle to the distinctive bliss of liberation while living, since in engagement and withdrawal there is no delusion of bondage in the Self, it is not an obstacle to liberation while living.
