क्रीडन्करोति पादातधर्मांस्तद्धर्मधर्मतः ।तथा प्रभुः प्रमोदात्मा क्रीडत्येवं तथा तथा ॥ ३८ ॥यथैश्वर्यचमत्कारवासितः सार्वभौमो राजा निरर्गलतया क्रीडया तल्लक्षणस्वभावापत्तेः पदातिसंबन्धिचेष्टितानि आचरति, तथा परमेश्वरः पूर्णत्वात् स्वत आनन्दघूर्णितैस्तैस्तैर्भूतभेदात्मभिः प्रकारैरेवमेतत्सदृशं क्रीडति ।हर्षानुसारी स्पन्दः क्रीडा ॥ ३८ ॥

playing, does the ways of a foot soldier, through their ways becoming his ways, so the Lord, whose self is joy, plays in this way, in each such way. Just as a king who rules the whole earth, steeped in the wonder of his sovereignty, freely, in play, does the doings that belong to a foot soldier, because he takes on a nature marked by them, so the Supreme Lord, being full, of himself plays thus, in a manner like this, in this mode and that, reeling with ānanda, which are the different kinds of beings. Play is spanda that follows joy.
