The gods said, "All this that is food is only so much, and thou hast sung it for thyself. Give us a share in this food." "Then enter into me," it said. "So be it," they said, and entered into it all around. Therefore, whatever food it eats, by that these are satisfied. So his own people come to him, and he becomes their supporter, the best among them, their leader, an eater of food and an overlord, who knows this. And whoever among his own people seeks to rival one who knows this is not able to support his dependants; but whoever follows him, or seeks to support his dependants under him, is able to support them.

Those deities. The objection that the restrictive statement 'that is eaten by prāṇa alone' is improper—because speech and the other organs are also seen to benefit from food—is unfounded, because the nourishment of those organs comes through the gateway of prāṇa. To explain how food benefits speech and the other organs through prāṇa, the text continues: those deities of speech and the senses—so called because they illuminate their respective objects—said to the principal prāṇa...

Those deities. Now, the restriction is not improper 'by prāṇa alone that is eaten,' since assistance from food is observed in the case of speech and the others; this is no flaw, because that assistance has prāṇa as its gateway. How the assistance made by food for speech and the others is through the gateway of prāṇa—explaining this meaning he says: those speech-and-others deities, deities because of illuminating their respective objects, said to the principal prāṇa...
