Now Gārgya Bālāki was learned and renowned. He had dwelt among the Uśīnaras, the Matsyas, the Kuru-Pañcālas, the Kāśis and the Videhas. He came to Ajātaśatru of Kāśi and said, "Let me tell thee of Brahman." Ajātaśatru said to him, "We give thee a thousand cows for that saying" — for at those words people run together crying, "Janaka! Janaka!"
