In plain words
These selves depend upon that Self as retainers depend upon a chief. As a chief enjoys with his retainers, and as the retainers wait upon their chief, so this self of wisdom enjoys with these selves, and so these selves wait upon that Self. So long as Indra did not know this Self, the demons overcame him. But when he knew it, then, having slain and conquered the demons, he attained pre-eminence, self-rule and sovereignty over all the gods. And so, having struck away all evils, he who knows thus attains pre-eminence, self-rule and sovereignty over all beings — he who knows thus.
