This subtle one, ungraspable, unseen, called the Person, comes to be here with a part of himself, unknown to the understanding, as he awakens with a part the understanding of one who is asleep. Now that part of him which is pure consciousness, present in each person, the knower of the field, marked by will, resolve and self-conceit, is Prajāpati, called Viśva. By that consciousness this body is set up as though possessed of consciousness, and he is the impeller of it. They said, "Sir, how does one such as this come to be with a part?" And he said to them:
