Come unsought, a door to heaven thrown open: happy [are the] kṣatriyas, O son of Pṛthā, [who] obtain such a battle.

The commentators

Bhagavadgītābhāṣyam

In plain words

And on what grounds should that war be fought? To this it is said —

And here it is, arriving on its own, unasked for -- the very door of heaven, standing wide open. Arjuna, a warrior who gets handed a war like this one -- isn't he the lucky one?

Close to the Sanskrit

And from what reason is that war to be waged — thus? It is said —

And having come about unsought, by chance -- the door of heaven, opened, thrown open -- O Partha, are those Kshatriyas who obtain such a war as this not fortunate?

Gītā Vāhini

In plain words

“Have you considered what kṣata means? It means sorrow, and the one who protects the people from it is called a kṣatriya. Such a war of Dharma falls to the lot of only a few souls of great merit; it is no common thing! And among them, it is to the kṣatriya alone that this merit has come. Think how great a merit, and how great a service, lies in protecting those devoted to Dharma and destroying those given to Adharma! The war that is waged to establish peace and well-being in the world is called a war of Dharma.”
