Bhagavadgītābhāṣyam

In plain words

Now the means of reaching that is stated —

'Puruṣa' — called that either because he dwells within the city of the body, or because he is complete fullness itself. That is the supreme, Pārtha: supreme, beyond which nothing whatsoever stands higher. And he is reached only by devotion — but devotion inseparable from real knowledge, undivided, with the Self alone as its object. Every being dwells within him, held there the way an effect always dwells within its cause. And by him this entire world is pervaded, filled through and through, the way space fills a pot and everything else.

Of the attainment of that, the means is stated —

'Puruṣa': either because of lying in the city of the body, or because of fullness; that is the supreme, O Pārtha; supreme, unsurpassed, than which puruṣa nothing is higher. That is attainable by devotion indeed, characterized by knowledge, undivided, having the Self as its object. Of whom, that is, of which puruṣa, beings dwell within, situated in the middle, as effects; for an effect indeed abides within its cause. By whom, this whole world is extended, pervaded, as space pervades a pot and the like.
