If now you are unable to do even this, resorting to My yoga, then make the renunciation of the fruit of all actions, self-controlled.

Now, Śaṅkara continues, suppose even that, being someone whose highest concern is my work, is more than you can manage. Then take refuge instead in yoga toward Me: offer up, as gifts to Me, the actions you are already doing. That very act of dedicated performance, doing what you do but handing it over to Me, is what 'yoga toward Me' means. Having taken refuge in that, the next step is to let go of the fruit of every single action, give up any claim on the results, all of them, and do this while staying self-disciplined, your mind held steady. That is what this verse means.

Now, again, even this that was said — [namely] the state of having my work as [one's] highest concern — if you are unable to do that, [then, being] one who has taken refuge in the yoga [devoted] to me: renouncing the actions being performed to me — that performance, that carrying out, of them, that is 'the yoga [devoted] to me' — having taken refuge in that, then, immediately following, perform the abandonment of the fruits of all actions — the renunciation of the fruit of all actions, the abandonment of the fruits of all action — being self-controlled, of a restrained mind; that is the meaning.
