In plain words
'This enemy -- call him Devadatta -- hard as he was to beat, I've killed him. And I'll finish off the rest of these pathetic ones too. What can mere holy men do against me? There's simply no one my equal, in any respect. Why? Because I am the lord here, I am the one who enjoys everything. I've succeeded at everything, I have sons, I have grandsons. I'm not just some ordinary human -- I'm strong, I'm happy, only I am like this. Everyone else? Just dead weight the earth has to carry.'
Close to the Sanskrit
'This enemy, named Devadatta, hard to conquer, has been slain by me. And I shall slay other, wretched ones too. What can these ascetics do [against me]? In every way, there is none equal to me. How [is this so]? I am the lord, I am the enjoyer. In every respect I am accomplished, endowed with sons and grandsons; not merely human, but strong and happy -- I alone [am so]; but others have descended [into existence only] as a burden upon the earth.'
