“Jñāna comes quickly to one who, as soon as he reaches the guru, attends to his (the guru's) needs, lays aside even the thought of Jñāna, renders the śuśrūṣā that delights the guru's citta, gives up mamakāra over the commands and bears them on his head, has no thought other than the guru's work, and leaves everything to the guru's gracious glance. But if instead one is disobedient to the guru and, with mamakāra, abhimāna and Ahaṅkāra, with disregard and distrust, tries to test the guru himself, then instead of the grace of the goddess of tattva-jñāna, one will have to receive the prasāda of her wrath.”
