Passage 18

In plain words

The jñāni's Bhakti is natural Bhakti; that of the others is secondary Bhakti. The jñāni regards his own Ātma as the Paramātma. Bhakti means attachment, loving attachment. Kṛṣṇa said, “Bhakti is loving attachment towards the worshipful.” It is the strength of the sādhana of many births that at last makes one a jñāni. Jñāna does not spring up on the spot just because one says one wants it. It is not an article in a shop, not goods at a market. It is the essence of the sādhana of past births. All at once many people wish to become fine doctors. But how much must they have studied before that? If, instead, you put someone who knows nothing in a hospital and tell him to give medicine to the patients, what will he do? Instead of saving them, he will ready them for death.
