Passage 18

In plain words

“The Ātma neither comes nor goes, brother-in-law! Those who live in the delusion that they are the body do not understand the Ātma-tattva. The tattva of the body is not steady. So, more than the six named above, it is most essential to know what feeling and what state one ought to have at this time of death. Why? Because all the sādhanas one does in a lifetime are only for knowing this state. It is the fruit of such sādhanas that causes such holy thought to come at the end. Cause and effect are inseparable. As the food, so the belch, is it not? As the sādhana, so the sadgati. So the holy thought one thinks at the end is the chief aim for sadgati, and its sign. Whatever we practise in life, it is in keeping with that that remembrance arises at the end,” He said.
