At that Kṛṣṇa Paramātma smiled. “Brother-in-law! There is no sense in asking what fruit comes from attaining God. Besides, what other fruit is there, greater than that? It is through that holy attainment alone that untutored man becomes a mahātma. You may again doubt: ‘What is the fruit of becoming a mahātma?’ Listen! There are many differences between man and the mahātma. Man takes on the sense of being a jīva and the sense of being the body, sinks and swells with the pleasures and pains that arise from them, and is subject to the many troubles that lie between unrest and calm. The mahātma is not so. In him the sense of being the body and the sense of being a jīva have perished completely, and he has attained the sense of being Brahman alone. Such a mahātma knows that the Ātma is not limited but unlimited, and he himself remains unlimited too.”
