That He is called Bhaktavatsala and Bhaktaparādhīna, this episode is direct evidence and direct proof. Otherwise, how could Arjuna, quaking and trembling like an ordinary man, be set beside Bhīṣma, Droṇa, Karṇa and the rest, great heroes, all-powerful, masters of every art? No one but God alone could defeat such men; it is not possible. Yet He told Arjuna, who had surrendered to Him, to take the glory of having defeated those great heroes and the glory of having slain them.
