Passage 4

In plain words

Things were such that we could not even walk up to the dais. All our people said the best thing was simply to turn back. But when I got into the car I heard the weeping of those devotees; I got down, slipped into the thick of the crowd, climbed onto the dais all alone without anyone knowing, and gave darśan. With a few bhajan songs I calmed them.

“In this twentieth century five lakh people have gathered in Delhi, the capital of Bhārata and the centre of modern civilisation, to have darśan of this five-foot Swami and to receive His blessings: from this I have come to know that truly, in Bhārata, the spiritual thirst, the spiritual yearning, the spiritual craving is alive with great intensity,” said the American Ambassador, Mr Kenneth Keating, rejoicing.

I know that Bhakti for God and spiritual śraddhā have entered the blood of the people of Bhārata and have gone on flowing in it, ceaselessly, for centuries. Words of Prema, the look of Prema, the rain of Prema: for these there is no such thing as defeat. Nor will there ever be. Everywhere it is nothing but triumph for Me, because all are My own; there are no strangers to Me at all.
