In plain words
But another, a beggar, may have the experience in a dream of having become emperor. But the very moment they wake, each has his own state; the beggar does not have the emperor's state. The emperor does not have the beggar's place. So in their real state the two keep the honours they have, but the honour and dishonour of these dream scenes are merely passing clouds. Giving no place at all in our hearts to such things, we must always remain ready to give up anything at all when it comes to serving our own people in our own home, for our own inner satisfaction.
Reaction, Echo, Reflection
Students, embodiments of the divine Ātma! You must be ready to do service; you must not set about getting service done for yourselves. Since the three strengths, of body, of mind and of spirit, are in you in full measure, you are at just the right age to serve others. So, in serving others, the aged, the weak, the frail, the downtrodden and people like these, you must believe your life to be the service of God and be ready to take part in such service. If you get others to serve you, you will merely end up having led some sort of life onto a dark path. In the homes of many rich people they try to have others serve them. This is not right. Today, in this present state, we may look on having others serve us as some seat of authority; yet in what we call its result a situation arises where we in turn must serve others. So whatever we do, whatever we see, whatever we say, reaction, resound and reflection: that is bound to come. So, first of all, there must be proper training in doing our own work ourselves. Next, we must set about serving our parents in our home. Next, we must enter this society and be ready to serve society. As for this service, we must take part in it purely with heartfelt feeling, with a spirit of sacrifice, in a spirit of Prema.
