In plain words

When we speak of sajjanasaṅgaṃ, we also need to enquire a little which is the company of the good and which the company of the wicked. Wherever there arises a strong need for the principles of Satya, sacrifice, Ahiṃsā and Prema, wherever there is an atmosphere that gives them strength, all that can be called sajjanasaṅgaṃ. Today this is a living proof for you. Each of you lived apart in a region of your own, and though the lives of these, the illusions of those and the wills of those were all different, by joining a Summer Course here all of you have come to have sacred feelings here; that is fit proof for recognising this as a company that gives you the chance to see one another and develop sacred feelings. Through the sacred feeling within us, when we are on our own, the unsacred feeling may grow somewhat weaker, step by step. But because such sacred feelings grow to some extent in our society, in our surroundings, our feelings gain some strength. Now, in this cloth there are many threads. You can pull out each thread and snap it like this with two fingers. But because all the threads have come together and been made into one cloth, this cloth has become such that it cannot be torn. A single blade of grass is so weak that it cannot bind even a small ant. But by joining many thousands of such blades of grass, you can bind even an elephant in rut. The bad qualities in us, and the good qualities too, depend on the groups we join. That is just why, when we want to drive away our bad qualities, we must set about entering the company of those who have good qualities. Through this satsaṅga, good feelings, good intellect, good conduct and good thoughts have every chance to grow, as much as they may. So Śaṅkara's disciple declared in this, as the third point, that satsaṅga is most essential. Next, the fourth line tells us to give wealth in charity to the poor.
