In plain words
What is the basis of the consciousness within the atoms? What is the power that lies hidden and unrevealed in it, and how does it come to be manifest? These are matters no one has settled to this day.
The philosophers of the Western countries too have been unable to find an answer to the problem of how actions take place in Prakṛti when there is no doer. But to recognise the Paramātma, who by the power of the resolve “I am One; may I become many” created the whole cosmos of countless millions of worlds, to know that very Paramātma as the indwelling Ātma of all beings, and to gain the experience of Ānanda: that alone is the highest victory of all for human beings! All beings must win this victory. That is the very will of God! This, precisely, is the inner meaning of the Praśānti flag!
But have you won this victory? No. Even so, this flag carries the great sign of that victory; so the first duty of Sai devotees is to look upon it again and again, recognising the principles held within it, and to accept it as a supreme guide, cherish it and follow it.
Even if you have not seen your grandfathers and great-grandfathers, you should learn from your father the ideals of their great lives, remember your forefathers with gratitude, and set yourselves to walk in their footsteps, should you not? It is not enough merely to enjoy the property and possessions of your grandfathers and great-grandfathers; you must take up these as well, the wealth of Ānanda they gathered and the wealth of Sujñāna, Vijñāna and Prajñāna, and follow their ideals. Only then will you have the right to say, “We are their descendants.” A life without gratitude is nothing but a wasted life.
Hoist this Praśānti flag in the temple of your own hearts, each of you; reflect on its inner meaning from time to time, develop your spiritual sādhanas, and, like your forefathers, win the victory too and cross over: with this hope I bless you.
