In plain words
By singing bhajan songs in this way, you may rejoice all by yourselves; you may be pleased. But I am not satisfied in the least any more. Whatever you do, what use is it? When all of you, as one, sing bhajans with purity of feeling from hearts filled with Prema, that delights Me! The hearts of those who listen will melt too.
The Sai organisations do not give bhajan the importance they give to food; only tamo-guṇa is on the increase; Ahaṅkāra and show keep growing and growing. Only when you join the words with feeling will your Bhakti follow the right path. Otherwise it cannot be called Bhakti.
The office-bearers of the organisations must give differences of opinion no chance to sprout and grow worse, whether in bhajan, in the Seva Dal or in the Mahilā wing. When service is given not under compulsion but through a bond of Prema, those who receive it feel joy as well. If the singers sing joyfully, the listeners feel joy too. If you sing in unrest, if you sing with your heart full of hatred and envy, it is an earache to hear. All are Sai's sons and daughters! If they split into … groups and humiliate one another, in … way will they be happy? Unless you sing joyfully, savouring it yourself, that song is a cry in the forest. The rāga must come not from the lips but from the heart. If you sing … that rāga of the heart, it becomes nothing but a symptom of disease.
