Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Victory, and victory alone, will always be yours.

In the Sathya Sai organisation, Prema alone is the chief sādhana. If envy or negligence or show takes root in the members, it is as though they had betrayed the organisation itself. The time that has passed has passed; what is here is not permanent; tomorrow is not ours. So do not grieve over what is gone; from today at least, develop mutual regard, affection and the Prema principle and enter the field of action; why go looking for the faults of others? If one looks for one's own faults, there is more gain than in that: a good result. If you see a fault in others, it is not theirs; it is the fault that is in you. To one who has no fault at all, no fault is seen anywhere.

Whether all of you are doing the work you ought to do: I have My doubts! Now they speak of village service. In the villages you do such work as laying out roads, repairing drains, sweeping the bazaars, giving lectures and leading bhajans. Is it enough to clean the outside of the tumbler you drink water from? Members of the Sathya Sai organisations must set up a programme of service that brings about a change of heart in the village people. If there are a thousand people in a village, find out how many of them have fallen into bad habits, evil ways and vices, and strive to stop these, gambling and drinking. Give them good teaching, win their affection and respect, make them see how much suffering their bad habits bring the family, and even if you must hold their feet, bring them to the good path. Roads, hospitals, water supply and the like the government will look after. This is what the Sathya Sai organisations must do: in every village, the growth of Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema!

Take care that such evil feelings and bad qualities do not creep into you too. Your fancies, thoughts, dress, looks and words must all be pure. Do not take to imitation. Wearing bell-bottoms, sideburns and such, how will you do service, and who will accept it? Follow your own heart; follow the Master. Master means none other than the Ātmārāma within you! Face the Devil. Devil means the six enemies. Fight the end. Whatever stands in the way, do not slacken your good resolve. Finish the Game: you must become devotees, constant and true. The Śiva-nature in you teaches you at every moment, in every breath in and out, “So'ham”, “So'ham”. When that remembrance of So'ham stops, the jīva becomes a corpse! The “So'ham” principle is in all living beings. So do not deceive others, do not hurt them; worship the Paramātma, who is the Supreme Light itself, shining in all.

This gathering has laid a fine foundation for the future. You must welcome everyone, saying, “There! The God I worship!” Your State Presidents, or anyone else, must walk ahead themselves and show you the way.
