Passage 4

In plain words

They need not have fitting protection from the military at every moment. But they do need protection from the police at every moment. So I close My talk hoping and blessing you, that all of you who have come for training in this Hyderabad camp will, with śraddhā and Bhakti fitting in every way, develop faith in God, keep the protection of the country in view, change our former outlook, take up some programmes of development suited to the welfare of this land, win a good name through them, and make the protection of the country grow.

Above all, whatever work we undertake without what is called faith in God, it takes on the form of a corpse without life. Today love of God and fear of sin, both of these, are most necessary for every man. Today it is because he has lost love of God and fear of sin that man, against the name of man, is earning its opposite, the name that fits him: demon. Truly, we are human beings. Though sacred humanness has come into our hands, failing to use it in the right way: this is truly a great fault. “Of all creatures, a human birth is hard to win”: among the many lakhs of kinds of living beings, the human birth is the most exalted. We must not make this precious humanness into ignorant beings who merely smear themselves with soot and charcoal. You must not devote your humanness only to food, sleep, fear, mating and the like. We must step forward in the tyāga that protects the country. We must stand firm in the vow that upholds Satya, and reach our goal. I hope that, becoming such men of Satya and men of tyāga, pure of heart, you will offer the right ideal to the world.
