Passage 7

In plain words

If you merely go on earning the wealth called education and do not work with effort, then both the education you have won and your life are of no use. Our students must not go in for earning education of this kind. First of all, the moment you pass, you must go home, honour your parents and pledge yourselves to fulfil their wishes. Next, whatever problems there are in society, whatever problems there may be in your village, you must try as far as possible to serve in them. Truly, for all that Swami has nourished you in so many ways, cherished you in so many ways and done you so many kinds of good, the gratitude you must offer Swami is only one! When, after you go out into society, the people of that society look at you: “Ah! How well the student who studied in the Sathya Sai College is doing, what an ideal life he is leading!”: the day they speak of you so, to hear that is the gratitude you show Me. If instead you go out of our college and wander like wasted lives, slipping without thinking onto some crooked paths, babbling as you please, firing off questions, getting caught in some evil ways, then truly you may be called traitors to God.
