In plain words

But if you truly learn good discipline, I feel the confidence, the joy and the zeal that you will become leaders of the nation and set right not only our Bhārata but the whole world. Students, the wishes I ask of you are only two or three. The root cause of children going astray today is wasting time in too many words. Too much talk, loss of wits. Measured talk, great ease. By talking too much your energy runs down. Your memory too grows weak. Not only that. Too much talk brings you dishonour. That is why the maharṣis have spoken about silence all along. That does not mean you must not speak at all. Speak as the subject requires. Speak only as much as you need. By talking too much, your energy is spoiled (spoil) while you are still young. But what are children doing today? They set out on a subject and end up in an object. They drift off anywhere at all, with neither road nor track. So what I like is measured talk. We must not get into needless matters. We come from the hostel to the college. When we come one by one, alone, what happens? Our gaze goes this way and that, we talk with someone or other, we enter into needless matters, and through that we even change our cast of mind: this is what goes on. So if all come together, neatly, in a line, there is no talk. The gaze does not wander. Coming this way, we can make it a holy discipline. We must not come gathered in little groups. These groups are turning into gangs. Even in the rooms you must not gather in group after group. If you must talk on some subject, discuss it only as far as the subject goes. Students must not become like dogs that roam the bazaar for nothing, or cats that go from room to room. Only dogs and cats wander that way! So we are not cats and dogs. We are holy human beings. If today we uphold the Satya, “I am a human being,” that is enough. I end My talk hoping and blessing that the students who have newly joined and the old students will keep Swami's ideals in their hearts, show forth an ideal life as far as they can, and set the country right.
