Passage 9

In plain words

They learn the nature of the moon. They do not notice how the people next door are faring. When you lack the ability to recognise the state of the people next door, what is the good of recognising the moon, lakhs of miles away? So we must not spread and preach grand ideas over much, but put small things into practice ourselves and grace them at the source. Thereby we must show forth the aim we hand on to others.

Today, at the conference of the Bal Vikas, we have received suggestions of many kinds and have set out a number of decisions. I wish to tell you some of the main points among them. If the Bal Vikas gurus are to be shaped along the right lines, only gurus of the gurus can shape them. That is, if one who knows the matters of education well, who has clearly grasped the secret of education, and who has in some measure the principle of Prema that knows how children are to be taught, were to give these gurus some advice, these matters of education would have the chance to develop all the more widely. So, because these Bal Vikas gurus are under the State President, they are not developing as well as they might. The reason is that not all the State Presidents may be learned, or virtuous, or able to give an ideal life, or have the ability to know how children are to be taught. Their experience may lie elsewhere. In their daily lives they may follow another path. So My intention is this: the Bal Vikas gurus. And the State Presidents should have no connection at all. The State Presidents may go as far as they like into the spiritual paths alone, namely bhajan maṇḍalis, sevā samitis, sevā organisations and sevā dals. It would be good if the Bal Vikas gurus had a close link with the centre alone. So, following the centre in every matter. By their acting on it, there is every chance for them to progress.

Besides this, we have to speak of some other shortcomings. By nature women are somewhat weak. When some surge of feeling comes, or joy comes, or sorrow comes, they have rather little power to restrain themselves. The reason is that the moment emotion or excitement (Emotion or Excitement) comes upon them, the State President is right there. So they go to him with their grievance, and things get somewhat upset because of it. So, for this emotion or excitement to settle down somewhat, writing to the centre takes a good deal of ‘time’. So it calms down to some extent. Besides, they are a little afraid to report all their excitements to the centre. So there will be no room at all for irregularities to arise among these gurus.
