In plain words
You must attain that.
This state is also called the nirvikalpa state. Only that which is free of saṅkalpa and vikalpa is nirvikalpa samādhi. Only when you go beyond the guṇas does the feeling of evenness become firm. For darkness to go, light must come; to wipe out sin, you must do meritorious deeds. In the same way, to attain Śānti, you must become empty of saṅkalpa. Saṅkalpas themselves are the root cause of disorder in the Manas; if the Manas is disordered, the human form itself is ruined; if the human form is tainted, Mādhava-hood is not attained. He forgets the truth that Mādhava-hood is within him.
Not even the most foolish throws gold, silver and diamonds away outside the house. It is in a secure box inside the house that they put them and guard them. Only things like trays, baskets and pots are left right outside. In the same way, God has placed the priceless Ātma in the sacred heart, in a place no one can easily see. The body is made of the five elements; it is bound to fall; it is bound to burn. The body itself is the God of gods. If you take refuge in God, there is no sorrow. Siddhārtha and Bhagīratha knew the worth of the Ātma. They gave up even the rule of a kingdom, lived in the forest, practised tapas in many ways, won the vision of the Ātma and became full of Ānanda. 'Ātmavidyā vidyānāṃ,' it is said.
For the business of the world, you must certainly study subjects such as physics, chemistry and botany. I am not telling you not to study them; for earning a living they are indeed needed. All of them are the branches, twigs, leaves, flowers and fruits that rest on the base. There is no use in pouring water on them. If you pour water on the roots that cannot be seen, the branches and twigs that can be seen grow well. So, at this very age, you must try to know that too. For eternal Ānanda, for the state of samādhi, for the vision of evenness, that itself is the chief sādhana.
