In plain words

So long as desires remain, the vision of the Ātma is not won

This mean life, lived by selling our morals, our honesty, our character and our divine nature to foreign lands, does not befit the people of Bhārata. If you work hard with your own two hands in this land of Bharata, can you not fill your stomach, a mere span wide? Why should we have these greedy desires? Truly, what is ruining humanness today is greed itself. So men must try to keep it under control. So long as desires remain, the vision of the Ātma is not won. That is why it is said in the Puruṣa Sūkta, ‘Not by deeds, not by offspring, not by wealth; by sacrifice some have attained immortality.’

Sacrifice, strength and Jñāna: these are the qualities of God. Use the strength of your Ātma for your motherland. After that, use it for foreign lands too. If you try to win in the village square before you have won at home, is it a thing that can be done? You who cannot put your learning, your strength and your Viveka to use in your own country, how can you put them to use in foreign lands? So we must make the effort never to fall prey to greed at all. Only because the monstrous demon called selfishness enters man does he form a friendship with greed. So man must strive that neither greed nor selfishness enters him at all. They have spoken of God as ‘nirguṇaṃ nirañjanaṃ sanātanaṃ niketanaṃ nitya śuddha buddha mukta nirmalasvarūpiṇam’. Stainlessness and selflessness must be man's two eyes. The man who lives selflessly is ever in Ānanda. To this I Myself am witness.

All My desires are desires for the welfare of the world!

Embodiments of the divine Ātma! You may believe or you may not believe. Your beliefs are no concern of Mine. I can declare it for all to hear that there is not an atom of selfishness in Me. Whatever work I do, whatever path I take, it is only for the Ānanda of all, for their joy, for their comfort and for the right path. Is there any other desire in Me at all? No. Desire does not come into My sight even thousands of miles away. All My desires are desires for the welfare of the world. All My resolves are for the uplift of the world. ‘May all the worlds be happy’: that alone is Sai's aim.

The well-being and the welfare of the world come only when the mind is transformed

The uplift of the world cannot come about through plans. Only when a transformation of the mind takes place in man do the well-being and the welfare of the world come about. If the Manas is not pure, however many plans you make, they will not bear good fruit. The young are the ones who will raise up Bhārata in the days to come. So to raise them up, to make them grow, to give them a refining of the mind, and through them to carry the good fortune of Bhārata to every land: that alone is Sai's purpose. All My wealth and riches are My students! All My hopes rest on the students alone. To shape them well and show them to the world as true exemplars: that alone is Sai's resolve.

But it is very hard to recognise the principle of Sai's Prema and His broad outlook. I shall give you one small example. Taking the children along, we went to Kashmir, we went to Jammu, we went to Delhi, we went to Prayāg.
